Good news / bad news.
The good news is that the upstream river levels are heading back to normal spring levels. The bad news is that the Lake Winnebago is well above the set point for this time of year. With that said the US army core of engineers will be lowering the lake level until it is back inside the marshal plan set point of 2.9’-3.2’ for the level for summer navigation. We will be asking the Core if they could close some of the gates to slow the current and lower the levels on the little lake where we are at the lower end of the flood stage. Where lake Winnebago still has some storage capacity before it hits its flood stages, but the Core is under the orders to keep Winnebago in the marshal plans levels band.
With that said, I ask for everyone’s patients as the record flooding that struck so many communities travels through the system.
For more information on levels and flows please go to the official website at:
Lake Winnebago > Great Lakes and Ohio River Division > Projects
The lake is under a no wake order from the Winnebago sheriffs dept as is the river
through Outagamie County. We recommend that boaters and especially kayak and
canoe paddlers stay off the river until levels drop.
Please feel free to post comments or send us a note with your concerns.
